Again, your essay should be rhetorically savvy--speaking to a specific audience for a specific purpose. Thus, your essay can be delivered using a number of different approaches:
- an interview
- a first-person narrative
- a fictionalized reenactment of some phenomena
- a radio-like news segment
- a combination of the above
Although the final approach of this audio essay is fairly open, there are a number of audio-specific composing strategies I expect you to include in your essay. You should make use of:
- atmospheric/background noise at strategic moments in the essay (should indicate mood, location, feeling, etc.)
- silence (especially in moments that add to your narrative--i.e., to create suspense, confusion, a transition, etc.)
- music (especially song selections that reflect the mood and tone you've established with your essay)
- quality voiceovers (paying attention to vocal tone and resonance)
- savvy editing (including fading and layering)
